Waterloo bowling tournament attracts over 5,000 bowlers

The Greater Cedar Valley Bowling Association held the opening ceremony for the 98th Iowa State USBC Open Championships in Waterloo Saturday. 

The tournament includes divisions for bowlers of various skill levels and winners will receive cash prizes from a $176,000 prize fund, a portion of which was raised locally.

This is the 8th time this event has been held in Waterloo.

According to Iowa State Bowling Association Manager, Darrell Fremont, the tournament will attract more than 5,500 bowlers and their families from across the state up until the second week of May.

The event is expected bring in between $2-4 million for the city of Waterloo through expenses such as food, shopping, hotels and gas over the next few weekends.
