BERNARD (KWWL) -

Bernard Elementary School went into lockdown Friday morning because of a man who entered the school and caused a disturbance, according to a press release from the Dubuque County Sheriff's Office.

Tesha Ruley, principal of the school, said they didn't go into full lockdown, but rather, a heightened state of security.

Students remained in their classrooms, but were not allowed to move around the school, and classroom doors were locked.

Scott Menadue, 39, was in the school cafeteria with school staff when authorities arrived, they said.

Authorities said he was escorted from the school and arrested.

According to the press release, he is being charged with disorderly conduct, child endangerment and operating while under the influence.

No one was injured as a result of the incident.
