Governor orders flags at half-staff on Friday

Posted: Updated:

Governor Terry Branstad is ordering that flags fly at half-staff over the weekend, starting from 5 p.m. on Friday through 8 a.m. on Monday to honor an Assistant Fire Chief killed in the line of duty.

Centerville Assistant Fire Chief Michael Cooper was killed while fighting a fire on January 31. Under the Governor's orders, all United States and State flags under the control of the State of Iowa must be flown at half-staff.

All flags on the state Capitol building, those in the Capitol complex, those on public buildings, grounds, and state facilities will be flown at half-staff; flags flying in other areas are encouraged to fly at half staff as a sign of respect.
