CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The Cedar Rapids/Linn County Solid Waste Agency says residents recycled more than 500 tons of glass last year.

Joe Horaney, Communications Director, says 507.28 tons of recyclable glass, or the equivalent of 2,029,120 glass bottles and jars, was turned in.

Horaney added that 202,912,000 watts of energy, enough to power a TV for 219,821 hours, was saved due to the glass recycling efforts of residents.

The glass that is recycled in Linn County is processed by Ripple Glass in Kansas City and then used to make new bottles for Boulevard Brewing or insulation.

Glass can be dropped off for no charge at both Solid Waste Agency locations.
