CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A Cedar Rapids man has pleaded guilty to being a drug user in possession of a firearm.

The United States Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Iowa says 25-year-old Michael Hicks pleaded guilty to one count of being an unlawful drug user in possession of a firearm in federal court today.

The court says Hicks admitted that in January 2010 he was in possession of a stolen handgun when the car he was a passenger in was pulled over in Benton County. Hicks had previously been convicted of possessing marijuana.

Hicks faces up to ten years in prison and a $250,000 fine. A sentencing date has not been set.
