National signing day is like Christmas in February for college football coaches--

Today-- the Iowa Hawkeyes announced they have signed 21 recruits--the Iowa state --25 players and UNI Panthers have 22 new players coming into the program...

Of the Iowa Hawkeyes 21 recruits -- nine are from the state of Iowa.

There are 12 offensive and 9 defensive recruits..

Offensive players--- breaking down as five offensive lineman--three receivers 2 quarterbacks..a runningback and a tight end..

The defense-- 4 d-lineman, 4 linebackers and one defensive back.

Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz says its a quality group

.

"The whole group from our vantage point is a very quality group. We're very impressed with each and every one of the players who have chosen to join us, and we spent a lot of time not only in the last two months but well before that just trying to find out as much as we can about their work habits and their character."

Of the 25 players the Iowa State Cyclones signed-- 19 are high school recruits and 6 are junior college transfers.

Thirteen of the recruits are defensive players and 12 are offensive guys... With 7 of the 25 recruits being homegrown Iowans.

Iowa state head coach Paul Rhoades says its critical that he signed some playmakers.

"When it is third down and one team is going to make a play--a guy used to making that play and used to winning and that permeates that attitude and effort amongst your football players."

Four players from the Iowa city Regina football dynasty signed national letters of intent this morning.. including quarterback and Hawkeye recruit Drew Cook.

Also signing today--are two UNI recruits kicker Jake Adam and center Phil Arendt - as well as linebacker Jacob Brinkman who is headed to rival North Dakota State.

It was a special day for drew cook and his father--Regina head coach--and Hawkeye legend Marv Cook.

I always wanted to go to Iowa  just growing up in Iowa City--going to Kinnick on Saturdays there is just no better feeling than them coming out to Back in Black.. for me it was a no brainer I've always wanted to be a Hawkeye Super excited.

"Obviously my wife and I are very blessed to have him staying close.. its going to be real close and hopefully we can be a resource to help him through his career."
