Calls flood Evansdale tipline after Lyric and Elizabeth update

Posted: Updated:
EVANSDALE (KWWL) - More than 100 new phone calls have come into a police tipline since Wednesday's update on the Lyric and Elizabeth case.

Investigators are shifting their focus exclusively to the Seven Bridges Wildlife Area. It's in Bremer County, about 22 miles from Evansdale. The cousins' remains were found there nearly five months after they were abducted.

Evansdale Police Chief Kent Smock says the news conference started Wednesday at 10:02 a.m. Tuesday, and the phones started ringing at 10:03 a.m.

Smock says the volume of phone calls is what they were hoping for. They just came a little faster than what they were prepared for.

He says a majority of the calls are on task and giving the information investigators are asking for. He says all the calls are valuable and they're evaluating all of them.

"We feel very confident that the person or persons responsible for this crime is very familiar with Seven Bridges and very comfortable with that area. And we think that the public knows who that may be without knowing their involvement," said Smock.

Smock says they had to call in extra help to field all the phone calls -- and they were even getting phone calls from people out of state.

If you're familiar with this area, the DCI and Evansdale police want to hear from you. You can call the tip line at 319-232-6682.
