IOWA CITY (KWWL) - The recent snow is making more activities available in the great outdoors in Iowa City.

The Parks and Forestry Division says it will now clear snow from certain park trails and loops so people can enjoy cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.

The following parks are available for those activities:-Benton Hill Park, at Benton Street and Miller Avenue

-City Park (both Upper and Lower), on Park Road

-Hunter's Run, on Duck Creek Drive

-Peninsula Park, at the west end of Foster Road

-Sycamore Greenspace, off of Lakeside Drive

-Waterworks Prairie Park, near I-80 and Dubuque Street

-Willow Creek Park, on Teg Drive

-Windsor Ridge Park, at American Legion Road and Arlington.

However, ice skating areas remain closed. Warmer weather earlier in January mean that the pond at City park and the lake at Terry Trueblood Recreation Area are still unsafe for skating. The city hopes to re-open them soon.
