MANASSAS, Va. (AP) -- A northern Virginia man who police say was pretending to be an officer pulled over the wrong car last week.

Police in Prince William County say 27-year-old Shawn Michael Robinson of Alexandria pulled over a real police officer on Thursday morning.

Police say Robinson was driving a white Crown Victoria close behind the off-duty officer's car around 1 a.m. Thursday. Police say the real officer pulled over when Robinson turned on a spotlight.

Instead of getting out, police say Robinson pulled alongside the officer's car. Police say Robinson sped off when the officer quickly identified himself.

Police later issued a warrant for his arrest, and Robinson turned himself in. He's being held without bond on a charge of impersonating an officer.

It's unclear whether Robinson has an attorney.
