IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

A 48-hour snow emergency has been declared for Iowa City, effective Monday, Feb. 2 at 8 a.m. through , Wednesday, Feb. 4 at 8 a.m. If weather conditions warrant, the snow emergency may be extended beyond Wednesday.

During the snow emergency, on-street parking outside the downtown central business district will be restricted so that snowplows and sand-and-salt crews can get streets cleared as quickly as possible.

Vehicles should be moved off the street and parked in a garage or driveway. If that is not possible, in most cases vehicle owners should follow an "even-odd" system and park on the even-numbered side of the street on even dates, and on the odd-numbered side on odd dates while the snow emergency is in effect.

Violators may be ticketed and towed, the cost of which may exceed $200. For complete information on parking requirements, snow emergency declarations, a list of temporary parking locations, what to do if your car is towed and how to be notified of future Iowa City snow emergencies, visit www.icgov.org/snow.
