Winter storm heading for Midwest, Northeast

Posted: Updated:
(AP) -- A storm gathering steam over the southern Rockies could bring significant snowfall from Nebraska to Maine.

Forecasters expect the storm to drop 5 to 12 inches of snow in the Midwest this weekend, and similar amounts in the Northeast on Monday.

The National Weather Service says the snow will move into Iowa, northern Illinois, Indiana and northwestern Ohio tonight and continue through tomorrow.

Then it's expected to move on to New England, which is still recovering from a blizzard that hit at the start of this week. That storm dumped a record 34.5 inches of snow in the central Massachusetts city of Worcester (WUS'-tur), 24 inches in Boston.

Forecasters say Boston could get another 10 to 14 inches.
