The top ranked wrestling team in the nation proved it deserved that ranking Friday night.
The first ranked Iowa Hawkeyes beat the second ranked Minnesota Gophers 23-12 in front of a packed, raucous crowd at Williams Arena.
Senior Nick Moore set the tone for the Hawkeyes, pinning Minnesota's Brandon Kingsley in the nights first match, giving the Hawkeyes a 6-0 lead.
"It was good for me," Moore said. "And it was good for me to build."
Second ranked Mike Evans beat fourth ranked Logan Storley in the night's second match, giving the Hawkeyes a quick 9-0 lead.
They would jump out to a 15-3 lead by the break.
That was enough to hold off the second ranked Gophers, who got wins from first ranked Chris Dardanes, Dylan Ness and fourth ranked Nick Dardanes.
The Hawkeyes held off the Gophers despite a nearly sold-out Williams Arena.
"When you have a mission, you go where that mission is. And our mission tonight was at the University of Minnesota," Tom Brands, head coach of the Hawkeye Wrestling team.
With the win, the Hawkeyes improve to 11-0, 6-0 in Big Ten action. They travel to Maryland to take on the Terrapins on Feb. 6.
