DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

An eastern Iowa city will get a state grant to help get a local park on a national historic registry.

The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs announced Wednesday the City of Dubuque will receive a $15,000 historic preservation grant for Eagle Point Park.

Overall, more than $90,000 was awarded to 12 Iowa communities.

The project at Eagle Point Park will include an archaeological survey and a nomination of the park to the National Register of Historic Places.

The 164-acre park opened in 1909 and overlooks the Mississippi River.

Officials say the total cost of the project will be about $25,000.
