WATERLOO (KWWL) - A woman is recovering after inhaling smoke while escaping a fire at a Waterloo hotel.

The Waterloo Fire Department says the fire started between two doors that joined two hotel rooms at the Quality Inn and Suites in downtown.

They say it was a very small fire, but it caused lots of smoke on the third, fourth and fifth floors that forced guests to evacuate.

One woman was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, no one else was hurt.

"When they hit the third floor hallway there was moderate smoke there, they had trouble even reading the room numbers as they worked down the hallway. Once they found it they had to force two doors open, use forcible entry tools to get into there. Once they found where it was at quickly extinguished it using water," said Mike Moore, Waterloo Battalion Chief.

Fire crews say they have deemed the fire undetermined and don't plan to investigate any further. They don't believe it was intentionally set.

The hotel's insurance company will survey out the damage Tuesday afternoon.
