Waterloo police chase ends in arrests

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Waterloo Police arrested two men after a short vehicle chase Saturday afternoon.

Police say just after 3 p.m. officers were sent to the 2300 block of Lafayette St. for a report of a weapons violation.

They say officers observed a vehicle leaving the immediate area and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.

They say during the traffic stop, the driver drove off and officers began a pursuit.

They say the chase ended when the vehicle stopped in the 100 block of Rebecca Ln. in a driveway.

They say during their investigation during that traffic stop, a handgun was recovered from the incident.

Police arrested a passenger in the vehicle, Travis Sumerall, 21, for Carrying Weapons and Possession of a Weapon by a Felon.

The driver, Nathaniel Whitaker, Jr., 21, faces charges of Felony Eluding and Driving with a Suspended License.

Both men were taken to the Black Hawk County Jail.
