CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Cedar Falls Police say 2 people face drug charges following an investigation stemming from a one-vehicle accident.

Police say it started just after 6:30 a.m. Saturday on a report of a single vehicle accident on Highway 58.

That's where police found a SUV severely damaged in the southbound lanes.

They say the driver had left the scene prior to their arrival.

They say shortly afterward, the vehicle's owner, Brittany Van Cleave, 23, of Cedar Falls, reported the vehicle stolen.

Police say a subsequent investigation revealed Van Cleave falsely reported the vehicle stolen.

Van Cleave's boyfriend, Dallas Shea, 23, of Cedar Falls, was charged with traffic offenses for driving the SUV at the time of the accident.

Police then executed a search warrant at the couple's residence and say they found drugs inside.

They say Van Cleave's 2 children were also inside at the time.

They have been released to family members, pending an investigation from the Dept. of Human Services.

Shea faces serious misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and meth.

Van Cleave faces serious misdemeanor charges of possession of marijuana and filing a false report to law enforcement.
