ELGIN (KWWL) -

A standoff ends after the Fayette County Sheriff deployed a taser device Friday evening.

Deputies responded to a report of domestic assault at a residence outside of Elgin. Investigators say a gun was used during the assault.

Upon arrival, they tried to get the suspect; the victim of the assault was no longer inside the residence. Officials say they tried to get Craig Alan Lenhart, 44, to safely come out of the residence. Lenhart refused to come out, barricaded himself inside with a gun, shut off multiple lights, and made threats to officials on scene.

During the standoff, officials set up a perimeter around the residence and blocked parts of Highway 56 for the public's safety.

Approximately an hour into the standoff, Fayette County Sheriff Marty Fisher entered the residence to deescalate the situation when Lenhart went for a firearm, prompting the Sheriff to deploy his taser device.

Lenhart has been charged with Domestic Abuse Assault causing serious injury, Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon, and Interference with Official Acts.

He remains in custody in the Fayette County Jail.
