New Hampton boys stun top ranked Waverly-Shell Rock

Posted: Updated:

The Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks are undefeated no more. Class 3A's top ranked team fell to 2A's #5 New Hampton 54-43 on Friday night.

The Chickasaws only blemish on their record came courtesy of the Go-Hawks last month, and this time they returned the favor.

New Hampton built an 8 point lead in the first quarter behind sharp-shooting from guard Cole MacDonald in the early going. Waverly-Shell Rock responded with a 14-5 run later on to build a one point lead at halftime.

Their undefeated run, however, would come to an end in the second half as New Hampton outscored the Go-Hawks 38-26 over the final 16 minutes to pick up the victory.

New Hampton's win puts the Chickasaws in a tie with the Go-Hawks on top of the Northeast Iowa Conference standings.
