DUBUQUE (KWWL) - Dubuque Police say they've received multiple reports of counterfeit bills circulating through the community recently.

Area convenience stores, restaurants and department stores have all reported that they've taken in fake bills ranging from $10 to $100.

Because of the uptick in fake currency, officers are asking you to be careful when looking at money whenever possible. They suggest using counterfeit detection markers and determining that the bill has the embedded denomination band on it.

If you want more information about checking for counterfeit currency, you can find it on the Secret Service websitehttp://www.secretservice.gov/money_detect.shtml

If you've received fake bills, contact police as soon as possible.
