IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Dozens of marchers honored the American activist and leader of the African American Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Students, community leaders and university staff walked around the Old capital in a silent march, remembering a man they say changed American history in a non-violent way.

"We all are effected by violence and we all have the potential for love," said Ed Flaherty, member of Veterans for Peace. "Actually the power of love is what Martin Luther King was all about, and that's what we're trying to do, it has no boundaries. Marchers say Dr. King King placed a strong emphasis on solving conflicts during the Civil Right era with non violence, that's what this march is all about.

It's the third year organizers have held the march, and they say every year it has grown.
