UPDATE: Police arrest man after car chase, fire

UPDATE: A man was arrested after he fled from police and his car burst in flames, according to authorities.

It began at 6:44 Monday night. Waterloo Police say an officer stopped Michael Vincent Woodbury Bent, 36, for a routine traffic violation. He drove off, and during the resulting chase, they say he drove into a field near Viking Rd. and Deere in Cedar Falls.

There, he crashed his car and it burst into flames. After a brief footchase, officers caught him.

Bent was taken to the hospital for minor injuries, released, and arrested. No one else was hurt. 

Bent was wanted for a parole violation in Black Hawk County.

Further charges are pending, police say. Bent's vehicle was totaled in the crash and subsequent fire.

Authorities say it began at 6:44 p.m. near John Deere in Waterloo. Police pursued one suspect for an undisclosed reason.

According to Waterloo officers, the car was on fire near the Cedar Falls Walmart on Viking Rd.. A suspect is in custody.
