Seahawks stun Green Bay, rally for overtime victory

Posted: Updated:

The Seattle Seahawks are Super Bowl bound. Seattle erased a 12 point deficit in the final 2 and a half minutes, rallying to stun Green Bay 28-22 in overtime.

The Packers appeared to have the game in hand. Green Bay built up a 16-0 lead at halftime behind a 13 yard touchdown connection from Aaron Rodgers to Randle Cobb and 3 Mason Crosby field goals.

Seattle cut in to the lead early in the second half on a fake field goal attempt. Holder Joe Ryan scrambled to his left and hit rookie Clint Gresham on an 19 yard strike to cut the deficit to 9.

Green Bay added a field goal early in the 4th, and appeared to be in control, up 19-7 with 3 minutes remaining. That's when everything fell apart.

Russell Wilson scored on a 1 yard run to make it a 5 point game with 2:09 left on the clock. The Seahawks Chris Matthews would then recover the onside kick and just seconds later, Seattle found themselves in the lead. Marshawn Lynch went off left tackle and rumbled 24 yards for the go-ahead score. A successful 2 point conversion attempt gave Seattle a 22-19 lead with 1:25 remaining.

Green Bay, however, didn't go away. The Packers drove 48 yards in just over a minute as Mason Crosby would send the game to overtime hitting from 48 yards with 15 seconds left.

That was the last positive play for the Packers. Seattle drove 87 yards on the first drive of overtime as Wilson would hit Jermaine Kearse on a 35 yard touchdown strike sending the Seahawks to their second straight championship game.
