Helping others- it's how Rose Quirk lives her life.
She believes, "it's a calling."
She's a social worker, but helping others isn't a 9-5 job to her. She volunteers for several different groups and her family founded the Catholic Worker House in Waterloo. It has become a sanctuary for many- a safe place to stay, with a side of comfort food. Some come after they lose a job, others stop by for a quick meal, either way, they are welcomed.
The house opened more than 30 years ago to anyone in need.
She says, "I've seen people here that have so very little and they share their last thing and when you see that, you say how can you not to that.. so I just think it is what we are supposed to do."
The Catholic Worker House is a non-profit that runs strictly off of donations. If you are interested in donating food or other goods, please send it to 321 E. 8th Street in Waterloo, Iowa.
