Former ISU researcher in fake AIDS research case to plead guilty

Posted: Updated:
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- A former Iowa State University researcher charged with falsifying data to make a developmental AIDS vaccine appear promising has agreed to plead guilty in the case.

The Des Moines Register reports that Dong-Pyou Han signed a plea agreement with prosecutors, according to a document his lawyer filed Friday in U.S. District Court in Des Moines. The document doesn't specify terms of the deal.

Han, who is free on bond, had pleaded not guilty in federal court last year to four counts of making false statements in research reports.

He was forced to resign from ISU in 2013, after admitting he'd faked results of experiments with an AIDS vaccine.
