Cedar Rapids Public Works Director announces retirement

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - The City of Cedar Rapids Public Works Director and City Engineers will be retiring in the near future.  David Elgin will retire on March 31 after more than 21 years of service.  He started worked for the city in 1993.

Elgin started as the Water Utility Engineering Manager and was later named City Engineer.  In 2007, he was promoted to Public Works Director.  

"I am grateful to have spent almost 22 years with this great city, and I am deeply honored to have had the opportunity to lead the Public Works department for the last seven," said Elgin. "I have worked with many talented and dedicated people throughout my career with the City of Cedar Rapids, and I am very proud of what we have accomplished together over the years."

The city will soon begin to search for Elgin's successor, who will have the task of dealing with the construction of flood protection on both sides of the Cedar River,
