Obama in Iowa: Cedar Falls preparing for the president

Posted: Updated:

Final preparations are being made Wednesday morning as Cedar Falls prepares for President Obama.

He's expected to arrive in eastern Iowa before 2 p.m. and will get a demonstration about fiber optic splicing at CFU before he gives a speech about increasing access to affordable, high-speed broadband across the country at about 2:40 p.m. He will announce steps that will be included in his State of the Union address next week. The president hopes to build new partnerships to mirror what has happened in Cedar Falls, which the White House says, has 'world-class Internet.'

KWWL's Teal Jennings spoke with CFU General Manager Jim Krieg Wednesday morning as he came to work. Krieg says CFU is honored to host the president and show him what they've been able to do with the support of the community to build the infrastructure for high-speed broadband. Krieg also says he arrived at work Wednesday just as he does every morning, but understands how this is no ordinary day.

Stay with KWWL throughout the day for coverage of President Obama's visit to Cedar Falls.
