IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Two men in just two weeks wanted in connection to two separate homicides out of Chicago, has been arrested by Iowa City police.

Late Monday night, Iowa City police caught 22 -year old Charles Johnson on a homicide warrant out of Chicago.

Iowa City police telling KWWL that Chicago police alerted them that Johnson might be in the area and is wanted in connection to a homicide back in November.

Johnson was taken into custody after being pulled over Monday night by Iowa City police on Riverside Drive near Myrtle Ave.

KWWL was there December 29 when Iowa City police arrested 29-year-old Lorenzo Jones wanted in connection to homicide in Chicago, Christmas Day.

"I would say it's not normal," said Captain Jim Steffen, with Iowa City Police. "Homicide suspects come to Iowa City and we arrested both of them, so this is not a good place to come. Hopefully they get the message that this isn't a good place to hide.

Both Johnson and Jones learned that the hard way.

Steffen says it's too early to call it a trend, but says criminals coming from Chicago to hide out is concerning, but nothing new.

"I don't know that they're coming specifically to Iowa City, but sometimes people from the big cities if they get in trouble will leave that town," said Steffen. "I think they are stopping in Davenport, Dubuque, they're stopping in Cedar Rapids, the eastern part of Iowa is seeing this.

Steffen says the criminals obviously leave to get away from the heat and pressure of the police department looking for them.

Jones has already been extradited to Chicago.

Johnson was transported to the Johnson County Jail pending extradition back to Cook County, Illinois.

In addition to the warrant arrest, Johnson was also charged locally with possession of a controlled substance.
