Study: iPhone separation anxiety impacts cognitive ability

Posted: Updated:

Researchers with the University Missouri determined that iPhone users solved puzzles better when they had their phones nearby. The study also suggests that participants had elevated heart rates, blood pressure and anxiety levels when they were separated from their phones.

The study was published in the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication; the author says "iPhones are capable of becoming an extension of our selves such that when separated, we experience a lessening of 'self' and a negative physiological state."
