Waterloo man accused of trying to pull daughter in oven

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

A Waterloo man is in jail - charged with attempting to put his toddler in an oven.

It happened Tuesday night at a home in Waterloo.

22-year-old Richard Dunlap faces child endangerment charges for Tuesday night's incident.

His mother, who is also the toddler's grandmother, says her son was off his meds when the incident happened.

Police say Dunlap was playing a game of hide and seek with his almost 2-year-old daughter at the time.

It happened inside his mother's home on East Fourth St.

Police say Dunlap grabbed the little girl's arm and pulled her toward the oven, which was on at the time.

Her grandmother saw it and stopped it.

Police said when they learned of the incident, they made an arrest.

"It's troubling when an adult asks a child to play hide and seek then turns on an oven and tries to entice the child to get into the oven. It's very concerning. It's troubling and that's why we made an arrest in this situation," said Dan Trelka, Waterloo Director of Safety Services.

Police arrested Dunlap while serving a warrant for failure to appear in court.

He's due in court Friday.

Dunlap is currently on probation for domestic abuse assault.
