CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Crosses and other tributes stand near a Cedar Rapids storm sewer as sad signs of the young life lost, a family without their son at Christmas.

On June 30, 2014, floodwater swept Logan Blake into a storm sewer. His friend went in after him and ended up more than a mile away in a lake. Rescuers searched for Logan for hours. They found his body in that same lake the next day.

Since then Logan's family has been fighting to see changes at the storm sewer so no other family suffers a similar loss.

Right now the only way you can tell where the storm sewer is located is by the memorials for Logan. Soon, that's going to change.

The city will be installing a guard, fence, and signs near the storm sewer to warn others of what's there. They'll be up by May 31, 2015.

Logan's dad reached out to KWWL and said he's glad to hear the changes are coming.

Many people who live near the storm sewer agree. While they knew the sewer was there, many never realized the danger it posed until it was too late.

The scene of the summer accident is now covered in snow but what happened there will never be forgotten.
