This week in weather - KWWL - Eastern Iowa Breaking News, Weather, Closings

This week in weather

Posted: Updated:

Our winter wonderland begins on a Monday.

Three to six inches of snow covered the KWWL viewing area, and horrible road conditions took a toll on one of our station vans.

Tuesday, wind gusts peaked at 38 miles per hour and temperatures dropped to 18 below.

Eastern Iowans hit the streets to clear new paths, and kids took advantage of canceled classes.

Wednesday, the wind chill was around 20 to 30 below across Eastern Iowa.

Less than ten minutes outside left the risk for frostbite.

Thursday, a blizzard of blowing snow resulted in more than 40 accidents in Black Hawk alone, and not just with cars.

Wind blew over a power pole in downtown Waterloo.

Finally, Friday.

After the most tumultuous week of snow, freezing temperatures and high winds, we took to the streets with one question in mind -- whats your warm thought?

"Beaches and South Carolina!" says Bard Rud.

"Soup, because it's nice and hot and it's cold out here!" says Shawn Prugh.

"Beach and Florida. Because it would be much better than where I'm at right now!" says Dan Roling.

Whether soup or sun is your solace, one thing is for sure: warm thoughts are one way to escape the reality that is winter weather in Iowa.
