WAVERLY (KWWL) - It was an unusual sight Thursday as the inflatable dam in Waverly almost looked like it had popped.

Early in the morning a valve failed, letting air out of the pillows on one side.

"When it happened, we had a lot of water go out of the dam, and started to get a gap between the ice and the water," said Phil Jones, Waverly City Administrator. "So that's what really concerns us."

Jones says they're not really sure why the valve malfunctioned, but he believes it may have been impacted by the change of temperature and cold weather.

City crews have fixed the problem.

The gates are slowly coming back up and the river should be back to normal by this weekend.
