Downtown Lansing designated National Historic District

LANSING (KWWL) -

The National Park Service has designated downtown Lansing a National Historic District.

It will be placed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The official area of the designation includes 100-401 Main Street, one block north and south on Front and 2nd streets, and 190 John Street.

City officials say the designation will boost tourism, preserve important architecture and allow for federal and state tax credits for property owners who want to restore their buildings.

An official celebration for the designation will be held in Lansing in May.
