UNI shuts down Southern Illinois 55-39

 Northern Iowa Panthers turned up the defensive pressure and shut down the Southern Illinois Salukis 55-39 on Wednesday night at the McLeod Center.

 UNI improved to 13-2 overall, 2-1 in the MVC.  The Panthers got a career-high tying 24 points from senior Seth Tuttle and 15 points off the bench from senior Nate Buss.  Southern Illinois scored the second-fewest points since 1950 with the 39-point output. The Panthers limited the Salukis to 29.5 percent shooting in the game. SIU's Anthony Beane came into the contest averaging 17.9 points per game and was held to one point by the Panther defense.

UNI opened up an 11-point first half lead at 22-11 before taking a 25-18 lead into halftime.

SIU closed to within four points at 25-21 with 19:24 left in the game. The Panthers then went on an 11-3 run to take a 36-24 lead following a jumper from freshman Wyatt Lohaus with 14:14 remaining. Buss added back-to-back buckets to push the UNI margin to 16 points at 43-27 with 11:03 left.
