DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

Jim Bakazan, owner of Jimi B's Bar and Grill in Bernard, went missing over the weekend while diving off the coast of Florida.

Multiple agencies, including the Coast Guard assisted with the search. But according to Adam Linhardt, a reporter in Florida who has been covering the story, that search was called off today.

"Once the search gets to more than 4,000-5,000 miles, they usually call it off," Linhardt said.

Bakazan is from Woodstock, Ill., but has a farm in Bernard and owns the bar. He is well-known and well-liked, according to a number of people who were at Coe's Bar in Bernard today.

Linhardt said Bakazan was diving the USS Vandenburg when he went missing.

He said the currents were fairly strong and visibility wasn't great the day he went missing.

Investigators are still unsure of what caused the disappearance.
