CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Close to six inches of snow fell Monday night, covering Cedar Rapids.

Some people with snow blowers wished they had more powerful ones.

"Snow blower's a little mad at me, I think, right now," said Craig Huggins, who lives in Cedar Rapids. "It thinks I should have bought a bigger one."

Employees with Green Lawn Irrigation were out all night and much of the day plowing and shoveling snow, including the company's owner who is in his 70s.

"Gotta do what you gotta do," said James Venneman, owner of Green Lawn Irrigation. "With a 6-inch snow coming like that, you better plow with it because if you don't then you're gonna do double time."

The Cedar Rapids Street Operations Superintendent says the snow stopped a bit earlier than they originally thought it would, right as they were bringing in the full crew, turning this into an all-plow event. It meant they were able to get out to the residential streets earlier than they expected, making the drive to work a bit easier.

That's, of course, if you were able to start your car in this bitter cold. Some weren't.

"I think it's just the battery," said Kristina Aguilar, who needed a jump start Tuesday. "I don't know. I think it's just too cold. It's way too cold."

It's only getting colder. Many say this weather is to be expected. After all, it's January in Iowa.
