Suspicious activity leads to theft ring; 4 charged

MARSHALLTOWN (KWWL) -

Four people face charges in Marshall County after suspicious activity in a motel parking lot led to the discovery of stolen items.

Marshalltown Police say an off-duty sheriff's deputy noticed a woman acting suspicious next to a parked vehicle in the parking lot of the Economy Inn around 12:30 a.m. Saturday.

They say a check of the license plate showed the vehicle was stolen from Hamilton County.

They say after a traffic stop, the driver and a female passenger were taken into custody.

They say the driver provided information about the stolen vehicle and a home burglary in Hamilton County.

Police later recovered additional stolen property, including a vehicle, weapons and electronics, at an apartment on N. 13th St. and a residence on N. 6th St. 

Rafael Avalos-Castellanos, 40, of Marshalltown and Ragan Victor, 32, of Marshalltown, face 1st degree Theft charges.

Patrick Sharp, 26, of Marshalltown faces charges of Possession of a Firearm as a Felon and 5th degree Theft.

Sharp was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for Willful Injury.

Katie Tremmel, 28, of Eldora faces charges of Possession of Schedule II Controlled Substance (Enhanced), Unlawful Possession of Prescription Pills, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia nd Driving Under Suspension.

Castellanos, Victor and Sharp are being held in the Marshall County Jail pending their initial appearances.

Tremmel is being held on $5,000 bond.

Police say additional charges out of Hamilton County are pending.
