IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

An area gym is aiming to set a record for the world's largest simultaneous workout group, while giving back

Fitness Xpress in Iowa City had close to 30 people show up to help them beat the world record.

For every person, the gym donates 30 meals to people in need.

It's all part of a world-wide event with about ten countries participating.

"These people helped thirty kids each today by just showing up. Literally walked through that door today and got on a treadmill, an elliptical, a bike for a few minutes and helped a kid," said Jeremy Murphy, manager at Fitness Xpress.

Fitness Xpress has gyms in Iowa City, Davenport and Moline, Illinois.

Between those three locations, they plan to give at least 5,000 meals to children and families in need.
