The man arrested in Cedar Rapids for the murder of a Waterloo man has been brought back to Black Hawk County.

Deputies with the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office confirm that James Robert Ernst II was transferred from Linn County back to the jail in Waterloo on Jan. 2.

Ernst is facing first-degree murder charges connected to the death of Orintheo Campbell, Jr. on Dec. 6.

Police believe Campbell was shot in the parking lot of the Prime Mart in Waterloo. He was taken to the Allen Hospital, where he died of his injuries.

A criminal complaint was filed against Ernst on Dec. 26, and police issued a warrant for his arrest on Dec.30. He was arrested in Cedar Rapids on New Years Day.

Ernst is being held on a $1 million, cash-only bond.

According to online court records, Ernst has previous convictions and guilty pleas for disorderly conduct, interference with official acts, and possession of a controlled substance.
