1-3" of snow for most of area; some to see 5" this weekend

Posted: Updated:

Winter will be returning to the area starting this weekend.

A winter storm will track from the Southern Plains to the northeast, and eastern Iowa will be in store for accumulating snow tomorrow into Sunday along with strong winds and falling temperatures Saturday night and Sunday.

We will start with light snow about midmorning Saturday, with the heaviest expected to fall Saturday night and all tapering off Sunday morning.

Winds will pick up Saturday night, creating blowing snow hazards.

Temperatures will likely fall Saturday night all the way through Sunday.

Wind chills will drop into the teens to 20 below zero on Sunday.

Snowfall totals will range from 1 to 5 inches, with most getting 1-3. A narrow band of 4 inches or more will fall, but the exact placement of that band is uncertain at this point.

It will be stretched from the southwest to the northeast and will affect travel in portions of the viewing area.
