Iowa Army National Guard Unit set to return home

JOHNSTON (KWWL) - Nearly ten soldiers with Detachment 34, Operational Support Airlift Command (OSACOM) will return home.

The Iowa National Guard will hold a community homecoming ceremony for the soldiers.


It will be held at 3 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 8 at the Camp Dodge Theater, 7105 NW 70th Ave., Johnston, Iowa.  


The unit was mobilized in July as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

After additional training at Ft. Bliss, Texas, the unit deployed to the Central Command theater of operations.

Detachment 34 OSACOM, headquartered at the Ankeny Airport, flies C-12 fixed-wing aircraft, with its primary mission to provide air movement of personnel in a theater of operation. The unit previously mobilized for Operation Enduring Freedom/New Dawn/Iraqi Freedom from June 2010-May 2011, for Operation Enduring Freedom from March-November 2008, and for Operation Iraqi Freedom from November 2002-April 2003.
