Hawks preparing for Tennessee's run-first offense

Posted: Updated:
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (KWWL) -  Now comfortably in Florida, the Iowa Hawkeyes are fully focused on what it's going to take to get a win on Friday. Defensively, that means dealing with a Volunteer offense that's more comfortable operating on the ground.

Jalen Hurd stands out as the workhorse of the offense rushing for 777 yards on 174 carries this season. He's complemented by a dual threat quarterback Josh Dobbs, who jumped in to the starting position following a mid-season injury to then-starter Justin Worley.

Iowa Defensive Coordinator Phil Parker sees that as his unit's biggest challenge this week.

"They definitely have a lot of skill guys out there that can catch the ball. They've got a very, very good running back in Hurd," says Parker, "and the quarterback is a very dynamic athlete that he can throw the ball, and obviously they like to run the ball a bit with him a little bit, so it's a challenge for us to stop them."

Friday's game kicks off at 2:30 PM in Jacksonville.
