Local florists to help with Tournament of Roses

The Rose Bowl Parade is known for having big, over-the-top floats, and this year some of those floats will feature the work of three local florists.

The floral team is from the Waterloo-Crossroads Hy-Vee.

They say it's every florists dream to work on the parade.

The floral manager Casey Allen says they still don't know what their duties are going to be.

"How many people are we going to meet? Are we going to meet famous designers? What floats will we be working on?" she wonders.

No matter what their tasks are, they say, they're ready.

"We could be processing flowers, cleaning floors, attaching flowers to the floats. We won't know until we get out there. It's a lot of work, doing anything and everything," says florist Krystal Weidemann.

The team fought hard to get there.

Employees, customers, and corporate help all worked to raise money for the trip.

And the team says that won't be in vain.

"We are all about education and bringing up the new florists of the future, so it'll be an educational experience. So I'm excited to share that with new students that are coming in for the Iowa's florist certification program which we're part of too," says florist Fran Newsom.

They're pros at designing arrangements, but it will take a lot more roses to put together floats.

"Be careful what you wish for," Newsom says. "Because you just might get it!"
