Warm Christmas brings new holiday traditions

EVANSDALE (KWWL) -

Warm weather brought some new Christmas traditions this year. In Evansdale, the Cronan family was out in their front yard playing bags.

Even though they were hoping for a white Christmas, they made the best of it.

"We didn't get our wish, but it's still Christmas, still time to be with the family and celebrate," said Carrie LeBahn.

In bags, Jared Cronan was dominant, stacking up several wins in a row.

"Yeah, you've got to love family time," he said.

Still, the bare ground was a bummer.

"Honestly, I bought a plow truck, so I was hoping for snow but it's nice," Cronan said.

But Chuck Cronan found it hard to complain, in weather where he almost doesn't need a hat. Almost.

"It's nice, but with a bald head, I've got to have a little bit," he laughed, rubbing his scalp.

Still, even without snow, he remembers their usual traditions.

"Playing red rover, building snowmen, having snowball fights," he said.

A few blocks away, at Meyers Lake, the geese don't seem to want to head south, but the Roche family needed a short break from the bustle.

"A little bit," said Marco Roche. "It's been a crazy Christmas, you know, one place to go after another.

The Roche's drove from Virginia to visit family in Evansdale. They needed a small excuse to get out of the house.

"Just enjoy the weather, get some sun, take a little walk," Roche said.

So even if the only snowflakes you see are fake, know this -- Christmas came anyway.
