IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Nurses and workers at the University of Iowa Children's Hospital wanted beat Santa at making the season brighter.

More 20 kids and teenagers received gifts since they'll be spending Christmas in the hospital.

Gift donations came from people all over the state to make the kids smile as they're recovering during the holiday.

"A good reminder of who we're caring for and hoping that we're bringing care and compassion to the kids everyday," said UI Children's Hospital executive director Scott Turner.  "Being able to see their smiling faces while they're in the hospital while they're in the hospital I think resonates with all the staff and certainly those who had the pleasure of distributing the gifts today."

There were all sorts of gifts, from a Wii game console to an iPad mini.

Families with their kids say the deliveries helped make their kids happy for Christmas Eve.
