CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

Cedar Falls police are searching for thieves who broke into a man's car and stole his Christmas gifts.

It happened in the Mudd Advertising parking lot on Christmas Eve.

Gary Kroeger says he was leaving work when he discovered his car window was shattered and gifts from the back seat were all stolen.

The gifts were for his family.

"Oh my God, that's the window of my car!" says Kroeger. "And I looked inside, and what was a back seat full of presents was now completely empty."

The thieves left nothing but a single bow.

"Absolute horror, and then it was...'oh my little boys,'" Kroeger says.

But he could have never imagined the reaction he got from his 15 year old son.

"He was just a prince...just a prince..."

Chris Kroeger says he had the option to go to Florida with his mom this Christmas, but he couldn't stand the thought of his dad being alone.

"Of course the first thing that went through my head was 'is he going to be ok?,'" says Chris. "Because I know he went through all this trouble to make sure things would be perfect."

"I have everything I'll ever need, having both of my families love me so much."

His wisdom resonates with his father.

"You have to look at the big picture. I'm healthy, my kids are healthy, my friends stepped up, I'm employed...and I don't have the flu!"

Even after everything, Kroeger says he's one of life's lucky people.

Cedar Falls police are still searching for suspects.
