DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

UPDATE:

A person close to Noah Herber emailed KWWL with the news that Herber is doing okay and suffered no injuries in the accident.  He stopped by the Kennedy Mall today in Dubuque to thank Santa, and they snapped a picture together.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Normally in the week before Christmas, Santa Claus is incredibly busy preparing for that special night.

But that didn't stop him from coming to the aid of a Dubuque man who had been in a car accident.

Noah Herber was driving on Highway 52 near Kemp Road Saturday night when he had to swerve to miss a deer (not one of Santa's reindeer).  He ended up in the ditch, and lucky for him, Jolly Old St. Nick was on his way home.

Santa called out to the man to see if he was okay, and he said that he wasn't.  So the man in the big red suit jumped into action.  He had his helpers call 911, while he helped the young man out of his seatbelt.

"I called his mom to let him know he was okay, and she asked 'Who is this?'" he said.  "I said, 'Santa Claus, ma'am' and you could almost hear the tears in her voice."

He covered Herber with his coat, and waited with him until authorities arrived.

"I think he might have dislocated his shoulder or something, but otherwise he seemed to be in good spirits," he said.

And why not, when Santa Claus comes to town...to save the day.
