WAVERLY (KWWL) - An eastern Iowa man donated a Harley Davidson motorcycle he won in a raffle to Self-Help International (SHI), a non-profit organization in Waverly.

Ted Waitman, of Waverly, won the 2014 Harley bike in a fundraiser raffle.

This came after Cal Corson, also from Waverly, originally won the bike in a photo contest sponsored by Original Bike Spirits, and donated it to the Retrieving Freedom sponsored raffle.

“When I won the motorcycle, I knew I wanted to take the opportunity to make it the gift that keeps on giving,” said Waitman. “My wife Debbie visited the programs in Nicaragua last year and was moved by what she saw, so we knew first-hand that the donation could make a big impact for Self-Help's beneficiaries.”

SHI provides opportunities to poor farm families in Ghana and Nicaragua.  Its goal is to offer long-term solutions for families, especially women and children, in poverty.
