CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

A Cedar Rapids council member has been awarded the Certified Elected Municipal Official Designation (CEMO).

Council Member Kris Gulick was recently recognized for the award designation by the Iowa League of Cities.

“The CEMO program has helped me become better informed about the changing needs and best practices in local government,” stated Gulick. “I also enjoyed making connections with other elected officials; learning what common issues we have and the solutions that have worked for them. I look forward to bringing many of the ideas I have learned back to Cedar Rapids.”

This voluntary recognition program allows attendees to build towards the CEMO designation while receiving meaningful, informative and useful information on topics that expand the elected official's knowledge and capabilities.

Five city officials were awarded the CEMO designation at a ceremony held during the Iowa League of Cities Annual Conference.

The CEMO designation is a voluntary recognition program requiring 50 total credits. Curriculum consists of a mix of core and elective credits as well as relevant training workshops and conferences to help participants learn more about the finer points of municipal government.
