BUCHANAN COUNTY (KWWL) -

Buchanan County Sheriff's deputies say members of the Jesup Fire Department rescued an accident victim from the Wapsipinicon River Friday morning.

It happened around 9:20 a.m. in the 1500 block of Otterville Blvd. near the Otterville River Access.

Sheriff's deputies say Mitch Thompson of Independence lost control of his 2014 Chevrolet Impala while headed east.

They say his vehicle went off the road and into the Wapsipinicon River, he wasn't hurt in the crash but was trapped inside his car.

Jesup firefighters responded and were able to free him from the vehicle, which was not submerged in the water due to the river being frozen.

Thompson was issued a citation for Failure to Maintain Control.
